A Message from Trade & Investment Queensland
Overview
With strong historic, economic and cultural links, Japan is our most important trading partner and we are committed to expanding our export profile in this critical market.
Japan is a major market for Queensland coal and manufactured goods and accounts for 48.6 per cent of our total beef exports.
To ensure coal exports remain strong, we are working closely with industry to promote the integrity of our supply chain systems to Japan.
Japan is our largest source of international tourists, our third largest market for education and training and by far the largest source market for international study tours to Queensland.
Clean coal technology, biotechnology, scramjet technology and professional services are further strengthening our export presence in Japan.
With Japan's population ageing and decreasing there is a smaller workforce leading to greater investment in automation and ICT and increased expenditure on lifestyle services and products.
This represents another significant market for Queensland businesses and we will continue to work with our Japanese partners to maximise opportunities in these areas.
Significant opportunities also exist for Queensland professionals with Japan outsourcing key professional services such as accounting, legal and business consulting.
We are working on positioning Queensland as a major supplier of these services as well as identifying other opportunities in cosmetics and skincare, creative industries, equine services, marine, processed and functional foods and sport business.
